The Hawaiian Walk for Women’s Cancer is a one day event that takes place on the first Saturday in May each year. This year it occurs on May 4th.
Hundreds of women and men will be walking a 35km course in Perth this year. Each commits to raising at least $1,000. The funds go directly to the Harry Perkins Institute of Medical Research, one of Perth’s largest research centres investigating the major diseases affecting our community including cancers affecting women, mainly breast and ovarian cancers.
Win a trip for four people including flights to Cable Beach Club Resort & Spa, thanks to Hawaiian. Offer ends 21 April, 2019. Sign up to do the walk here.
Director of the Harry Perkins Institute, Professor Peter Leedman, is confident that medical research will, one day, make cancer a non-lethal disease. He says medical research is the only way to bring that day closer. “The Harry Perkins Institute is focused on the hard to treat cancers, such as triple negative breast cancer which doesn’t respond to conventional treatments.”
“We have researchers dedicated to developing better medicines and advanced technologies, which have the potential to help millions of women,” Professor Leedman said.
The Harry Perkins Institute of Medical Research is one Australia’s leading medical research institutes investigating diseases affecting the community. With over 250 researchers located on three hospital campuses in Perth, the Perkins is uniquely positioned to fast track the development of new discoveries and treatments. World-class researchers take discoveries from the laboratory bench top to the bedside. The Harry Perkins Institute of Medical Research is proudly West Australian, providing career opportunities to our best and brightest graduates and bringing to the State international scientists. As a registered charity, the Harry Perkins Institute relies on grants and donations to fund its medical research. Teams dedicated to finding answers to defeat women’s cancers are funded from the Hawaiian Walk for Women’s Cancer each year.
